Symbol - Handy Twine Knife Co.

A week or so ago as I rode the number 19 bus home from a friends, I bowed my head in an effort to doze off and ease the journey home. As I peered down, I noticed a small metal contraption: a stainless steel ring with a ¾ inch blade attached to the top of it. Upon further inspection, the ring-knife was stamped with the words “HANDY TWINE KNIFE CO. UPPER SANDUSKY, OHIO." So, I snapped a few cellphone pictures wearing my new found bus-weapon and called it a night.

The next morning, I rediscovered the utility knife in my jacket pocket and did some research on the Handy Twine Knife Company. Turns out, the company has been producing finger-ring-utility-knives for over 100 years, out of their family owned factory in Sandusky, Ohio.  Their mission is simple: to provide a helpful and productive tool to the working human.

The finding of my own ring-knife couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time, as I just recently began working in the Tanner Goods workshop. The ring-knife will serve as a valuable symbol and constant reminder of the importance of craft and good old-fashioned hard work. I look forward to my days at Tanner and maybe I’ll be able to put the "Handy" (as HTK calls em') to use!
