About the Snow Camouflage
This ‘Shneetarn’ (snow camo) dates from the 1960’s and was designed for use by the West German Bundeswehr as an improvement on the solid white motifs of earlier patterns. pine needle shapes helped conceal personnel in sparsely forested conditions during winter. When conditions changed to open fields of snow, the garments were designed to be reversed to make use of the solid white back side. The pattern was eventually retired in the early 1990’s.
